Passage: Matthew 21:12-16
Praise in the House
Matthew 21:12-16
God’s house is to be a House of Purity, Prayer, Power and Praise!
The chief priests and scribes were troubled (first) by the wonderful things Jesus did, (secondly) by what the children were crying [lit. screaming and calling aloud].
“Hosanna to the Son of David”…[”Oh Save, Our Messiah”]
Hosanna was also used as an exclamation of adoration or praise.
The children were literally praising Jesus as their Messiah and calling upon him for his salvation and rescue!
Jesus asked the religious leaders if they had never read Psalm 8:2.
“Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise.”
[“perfected” = to complete thoroughly, repair, adjust]
I think we need a praise repair in God’s House today!
We need some praise in the house!
The church has become too solemn, too quiet, too stoic and starchy.
Where’s the joy? Where’s the celebration? Where’s the glory?
Where’s the noise of children…God’s children happily praising him and crying out to him for his salvation and rescue…….?
Psalm 8:1-2
David (a Praiser) said that out of the mouths of babes and sucklings God has ordained strength!
[Lit. founded and established strength, force, majesty and praise)
Praise strengthens the Child of God!
(Romans 4:20 says that Abraham became “strong in faith giving glory to God”.)
If praise makes us strong…We ought to praise Him!
Psalm 8:2
God has ordained strength for us in praise…because of our enemies!
Praise stills (puts to rest, puts away, puts down) the enemy!
Praise makes him repose, lie down and become still.
Do you have any enemies?
You need to praise God!
Why do we praise God in our church services before we do anything else?
Psalm 100:4
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him and bless his name.”
Because if we’re going to get something done for the Kingdom, something done in people’s lives, something done for Jesus…we need to still our enemy!
We need to tell Satan to simmer down!
We need to let the Devil know whose boss!
We need to put him in his place, put him down, put him away, shut him up and sit him down….
We need to lift Jesus up and shout “Hosanna!
Save us Jesus! Rescue us Jesus! Help us and Heal us Jesus!
We need to praise God!
It set’s the atmosphere into agreement with heaven.
It makes faith strong.
It strengthens the child of God!
It helps to connect us with God’s glory and presence!
We praise God because we want our flesh, our troubles, our tribulations and temptations to shut up…
And we want the Lord to speak up and lift us up in his house!
It’s impossible to praise God and dwell in unbelief at the same time!
It’s impossible to really praise God and feel sorry for yourself at the same time.
It’s impossible to praise God and remain weak at the same time!
God’s house should be a house of praise!
Every child of God should praise Him!
King David wrote many wonderful praise psalms.
I’ve chosen one that not only models praise for us but also gives us a lot of good reasons to praise God.
Listen…to Psalm 145

forever and ever.
