What Really Matters...
Luke 12:16-21
Parable of the Rich Fool
You can be very successful in the world's eyes and still be a Fool!
The only way one can escape foolishness...is to consider what really matters in life.
-
What really matters are those things that make you rich... toward God!
-
What really matters is the condition of your soul...not the fullness of your barns...or your bank accounts.
I've decided there are 4 things that I think really matter!

What We Believe
The Foolish man believed that his possessions and financial security were what mattered. He didn't realize that investing in his relationship with God was more important. He wasn't rich toward God.

What an atheist believes directs his life.

What a Secularist believes directs his life.
-
What an Islamic Terrorist believes directs his life.
-
What you believe about Jesus determines your eternity with God and your lifestyle
-
What you believe about God's promises determines your blessing in God.
-
What you believe about yourself determines how your life turns out. (Believe what God believes about you.)

What We Think
-
How you believe affects how you think
-
How you think affects how you speak and act
-
How you speak and act affects how you live
Romans 12 teaches that we are to renew our minds and think like God.
2 Timothy 2:7 says that God hasn't given us fear but power, love and a sound (self controlled) mind.
We are to control our thinking!
Philippians 4:8

How We Live
The New Life Version says the Foolish man said to his soul, “Now rest and eat and drink and have lots of fun”
Life is not about pleasure or laying up treasure...it's about purpose and being rich toward God!

How you live matters.

Your morals, character, witness, reputation...
-
Whether or not you pay your bills
-
Your example to your kids...matter.
How you live and what you do in service to God will determine all your rewards in Heaven!
Eternity matters...much more than this earthly life!
So we need to live this life...with a vision for eternity!

How We Love
God teaches us in scripture to love our spouse, our children, our brother, our neighbor and even our enemies!
People matter.
We must be careful to love people and use things...rather than love things and use people!
God asked the Foolish man if he knew who would inherit his possessions when he died? (Maybe he didn't even know them...really know them!)
When we love people we are...generous, kind, merciful, gracious, forgiving and restoring...not judmental, harsh, critical, condemning!
If we can't love people at their worst...we really can't love them at their best.
How we love...matters!

Verse 10 Amplified Bible
“…learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value”
So…What really matters?
Faith
Faith in Jesus that brings salvation
What we believe about Jesus
What we believe about God
What we believe about God’s Word
We live by faith and not by sight
Family and Friends
Our relationships
The people you influence
The people who influence you
The only thing you’ll ever be able to take with you to heaven is people!
Future
Your past is significant, but not nearly as important as your future!
Your dream, your vision, your God assignment are important.
How you live is important and determines the praise and glory brought to God through your life.
