Passage: Acts 5:17-21
This Life (Part 5)
Acts 5:17-21
1 John 5:11-12
This Life is in God’s Son. (Jesus is the only source of this life)
This Life is not just a religious lifestyle but a possession of Gods’ supernatural life within our spirit and soul!
This Life is imparted into us when we’re born again.
This Life transforms us from the inside.
This Life manifests itself outwardly in Christ-like character, behavior and ministry.
Jesus taught that we are to make This Life the priority and the focus of our existence!
This Life is zoe. (Greek)
W.E.Vines Expository Dictionary of Words says that zoe is…
used in the NT of “life as a principle, life in the absolute sense, life as God has it, that which the Father has in himself, and which he gave to the Incarnate Son to have in himself, and which the Son manifested in the world.”
Matthew 10:37-39
V 39 He that finds (find, discover, acquire) his life shall lose
(destroy, allow to perish) it.
He that loses his life for my sake, shall find it.
This word life is psuche.
It is translated mind, soul, heart, life.
It means breath, the physical life or existence
It is used of breath of life, the natural life and of the individual personality. The individual life. (whereas zoe is God’s life or vitality within a human being.)
Psuche can be described as the individuals personal life…
Outward natural life.
Zoe is the life force, the vitality of God, spiritual life…
Inward supernatural life.
Jesus is saying that if a person continually grasps for HIS own outward life…he will lose it. His life will perish.
But by losing it (letting HIS own life go for the sake of Jesus) he actually insures its continuance.
God’s life in you is to be priorititized over the physical outward life you’re living!
Gods’ life is to be priority over Our life!
Matthew 16:24-25
V 24 A follower of Jesus must deny (utterly deny, disown)
himself.
V 25 Whoever will save (rescue, preserve) his life (psuche) shall
lose it. Whoever loses (allows it to perish) it shall find
(find, discover, acquire) it.
V 26 What will it profit, if a man gain the whole world, and lose
(injure, damage) his own soul (where God’s life dwells)?
Again the point is…Gods’ life is a priority over Your life!
Inward life is to be our focus…not outward life.
This life he has given us…not our outward physical earthly individual life.
John 12:24-25
V 24 – 25 “Love and hate” is a figure of speech denoting comparison.
It means to prioritize eternal life (zoe) over life in this world (psuche) to such a great degree it is as if you hate your life.
Why do this?
Because if we love our psuche life in this world and (comparitively) hate God’s life force within us WE WILL LOSE OUR LIFE IN THIS WORLD (psuche).
But if we hate our psuche life in comparison to our affection for God’s life…we will keep (guard, protect) it unto life eternal. (Zoe life)
Zoe life rescues Psuche life Forever!
Zoe life rescues you and me for eternity!
We ultimately preserve both kinds of life forever!
2 Peter 1:3-4
This life produces…
1. Spiritual Success (becoming life Jesus.)
2. Spiritual Ministry (Imparting Jesus.)
3. Spiritual Excellence (Showing Jesus to the world.)
