Luke 6:46-49
1. Following Jesus involves Obedience to His Sayings!
A Christian isn't to be someone who merely professes to know Jesus... but someone who actively obeys Jesus.
“Christian” means “Christ-like” A Jesus Follower is to be submissive to Jesus' Lordship!
Romans 13:11-14 NKJV
Revelry = wild drinking parties, drunken nightime carousings, drunken street parties and parades.
Lewdness = Sexual sin and perversions
Lust = Outrageous, shameless, unlawful sexual desires
Strife = Contention, wrangling, debate, argument, variance
Envy = an envious and contentious rivalry and jealousy
Paul said that we are to “put on” Jesus!
To be “clothed with a person” was a Greek phrase that signified...
- adopting the interests of another
- to enter into his views
- to be wholly on his side
- to imitate him in all things
2. Following Jesus involves Adopting His Viewpoints!
If you “put on” Jesus...it will determine...
- How you act
- What you think
- What you believe
- What you support
- What you're against
Colossians 3:1-17
Uncleanness = moral uncleanness
Inordinate affection = evil passions
Evil concupiscence = lust for evil things
Whatever you say or do should be done in Jesus' authority, under his commandment, with his permission...as his representative!
3. Following Jesus involves correctly representing Him to the World!
What would Jesus do or say in your same circumstance?
Whatever you do...can you do it in Jesus” Name?
Whatever you say...can you say it in Jesus' Name?
As Followers of Jesus...We are Jesus to the World!
