Put Feet On Your Dream

PUT FEET ON YOUR DREAM

The unhealthy habits and lack of planning over ride the healthy habits we were trying to establish.  Before you know it you are completely away from the goal of eating healthy or losing weight.  Why is it some people can achieve their dreams in healthy eating or weight lose but many of us can’t. Really why is it with any goal that some people are successful in reaching and achieving their dreams and others are not.  To go a step further, why is it that we can achieve some dreams in our lives but others fail. The answer to that is that some put feet to their dreams and others don’t. Some of us put feet to some of our dreams and not others.

The goals we set to achieve our dreams are the FEET; it is imperative that we are aware of the different personas going on within us if we are every going to dream a dream. Set goals and achieve them.

Statistics say that most people naturally spend 10% of the time dreaming, visionary, futuring.

20 percent of the time managing. This is the planning and order structure of things,

70 percent of the time doing the technical aspects of what they do. Basically the get it done phase.  Believe it or not we all have these three capabilities in us but one dominates our thinking most times.   What is great about these personas if correctly balanced you can achieve your goals more readily.

Tonight we are going to talk about the three personas within us all … the dreamer manager, and worker how we must balance these to achieve our dreams.

  1. DREAMER-The average person does not spend much time dreaming or envsioning the future. This is basically the part of you that wonders.  When you are dreaming you think of the future and what you would like to see happen.  Pastor had been inspiring us to Dare to Dream this month and it is awesome because most of the time most people spend the list amount of time dreaming.  I believe that many of us have dreamed again for the first time in a long time.  Some of us thought I am not a visionary, dreamer ect.. In Gen 9:6 the Bible says we are created in his image.and because we are created in his image then we must be creative because God is the most creative person I know.  I use to think that I was the least creative person.  I can’t draw, I can’t sing, I can’t do anything artsy.  But one day Jonathan Armbruter sparked a thought in me and said.. I think you are one of the most creative people I know..  and I was gleaming.. Wow the media graphic director thinks I am creative and he went on to say… anyone who can work the wonders you work with finances and the administrative things you do is creative.  That opened a whole new realm for me on what the word creative is.  You may not be creative in art or music but maybe you create new systems in business that are innovative, maybe you think of new ways to cook foods.  So whether you know it or not there is a part of you that is a visionary, a dreamer if you will that can wonder and think about the future.  It may be crazy but many people think that is left for the entrepreneur, wonder type. But know we all need to tap into this part of us that is creative and begin to dream again!!!  But don’t stop there!

  1. MANAGER -The average person has 20% manager personality in them.  Again, you have to identify what dominates your thinking and goals and work to use the others.  I tend to be more managerial; therefore, this comes more naturally.  I have to make a conscious effort to set time aside to dream about the future.  I could spend all my time managing my lives and others and this gift does work well and I surround myself with the other people who have other gifting, but even though dreaming is the least of most people do it is imperative we all take time to dream.  For those of you who tend to be more dreamers. It is imperative to realize that dreaming alone will not get you to a goal.  At some point you have to manage the dream and take some actions steps.  I am hoping that many of us have begin to dream again during the dare to dream series, but let’s not stop there by just daring to dream…  let’s take the steps necessary to make the dream happen.  Without a dream… you wouldn’t have anything to manage so it is imperative that we have both.  Managing is the planning, organizing, preparing. Maybe your dream is to own your own business and that is a good dream, but now what steps are you taking to manage the dream.  Do you know where you are going?  Have you laid out a blueprint for this dream and set realistic goals?  We all love the story of the poor, underprivileged person that came from an unimaginable horrible background who worked hard to become a millionaire.  Or the stories of the person who had a crippling disease that they overcame and won a marathon. I love these stories because the word impossible became possible.

We all ask why these people are able to obtain what seems impossible to most people when people without obstacles achieve nothing. The answer is they had a dream that consumed them. But they didn’t stop there. They set goals to achieve the dream even though it seemed impossible. It is refreshing to be reminded that we serve a God who says in his WORD in Matthew 19:26 that with God all things are possible!  Your dreams can come true.

Everything you have around you is a goal you have reached.  It may be a house, a car, a business, and a scholastic achievement.  a vacation, weight lost.   What ever it is it is a dream that had goals you followed and the dream came true.

Now that we have been dreaming dreams and putting them on the dream wall in the lobby let’s put feet to those dreams.   Set Goals.  Here are some good guidelines to follow in setting goals

  1. Develop Specific Goals:  without a definable purpose success cannot be achieved.
  2. Set goals you can visualize:  See yourself achieving them and make them a part of your consciousness.
  3. Set goals that are measurable:  Make sure your goals are specific, so that when you have completed them, you will be able to see a difference from where you begin.
  4. Set open-ended goals- Set goals that will lead you progressively upward and onward, and when they are achieved will point the way to greater accomplishments
  5. Set goals with time frames- Allow yourself realistic time frames to accomplish task at hand, but not so much time that it will allow you to procrastinate.

You must clearly define a goal and stick to it.

  1. WORKER-Earlier we stated that most people lean 70 percent to the worker side. This is the person that says, let’s quit thinking of new ideas and just get the work done.  The tech person is the how to person.   Wow, it is important to get the work done, but without a dreamer, there would be nothing to manage and no work to do, so you see they are all important.  I think the question here is are you spending all your time working.  IF you wake up one day and you are just working to work because that is what you do set aside time to dream and set goals to achieve those dreams.

CONCLUSION:  Joab and I have several dreams on different levels.  We have personal dreams that involve finances, business, marriage and family. We have church dreams. Dreams we dream with Pastor David. Such as creating a church that reaches the hurting and disciples people to lead victorious lives, reaching Honduras with the message of Christ, and many more church dreams that we all dream together and are a part of.  We have seen many of our dreams come true, but not one of them came true just by being a dream… we had to get out our pen and paper and write the dream down…. Put feet to the dream by creating goals, and we had to stick to the goals even when it wasn’t convenient or easy, and then we had to work to achieve the goal.  Now as I look back I can praise God for many dreams that have become reality in my life personally and at our church.

I have been at victory for 14 years and it is amazing to se the goals we have achieved together as a church. God is truly the God of the impossible!  In a strange mysterious way our success in life is dependant of our ability to set high and very specific goals.  Although, in America we have it all we often have nothing we dreamed because we either set no goals at all or we set unrealistic goals that don’t provide a blue print to get anywhere.
