Patience

“Patience” = endurance, perseverance, constancy

James 1:1-4
    •    Lk. 21:19  “in your patience possess ye your souls”
    •    Heb. 6:12 “be followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises”
    •    Heb. 10:36 “you need patience, that after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise.”
    •    Heb. 12:1 “let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

Is it true that trials and tribulations produce patience in our lives?

Does the word “worketh” here mean to produce, build or develop?
Was James teaching that trials produce endurance when Jesus said trials cause some people to quit?

Let's look at the Greek word translated... “worketh”.
Strongs Concordance & Dictionary Greek word #2716
“katergazomai” (kat-er-gad'-zom-ahee)
    1.  to work fully  (or...to fully work)
W.E. Vine says...
    1.  to work out
In other words, the word “worketh” here means to “put something to work”, not to produce something.

So, where does patience come from?

Romans 15:4 says the Scriptures give us patience.(Gods word)
Romans 15:5 says patience is granted or given by God.
Romans 5:3-5 says God's love, hope and the character he develops within us give us patience!
Colossians 1:11 says that we are strengthened by God's might (dunamis) and glorious power to be patient and longsuffering.
2 Peter 1:6 teaches that we add patience to our spiritual lives by a faith decision, just like we choose to increase in excellence, knowledge, self control, godliness and love!

God will give you patience, endurance and the power to persevere!

Believing for patience will help you to have the endurance needed to last through your trials...and glorify God with the fruit of your lives.
