I AM (Part 1)
Genesis 17:1-8
The first thing God did as he revealed this new vision in Abram's life was to identify himself.
Verse 1 - I AM the Almighty God!
“Almighty God” = El Shaddai
El = Strong One
Shaddai = Breasted One/Giver/Nourisher
El Shaddai = Strength Giver
All Bountiful Supplier
The God who is More than Enough
Because God is El Shaddai, He had the power to multiply Abraham abundantly and restore life to him and Sarah who were as good as dead as far as offspring were concerned!
Verse 5 - You are Abraham
Abram = Exalted Father
Abraham = Father of a Multitude
God promised Abraham that his descendants would be innumerable like the sand of the seashore and the stars of the sky.
Your identity matters!
People tend to act like who they believe they are!
Who you are matters more than how you are...or what you are.
God wanted Abraham to exhibit the nature of his new name...
Just like God exhibits the nature of his names!
God has revealed himself by his names.
Jehovah Rohi...I AM your Shepherd
Jehovah Shalom...I AM your Peace
Jehovah Jireh...I AM your Provider
Jehovah Rapha...I AM your Healer
Jehovah Nissi...I AM your Victory
Jehovah Mekaddesh...I AM your Sanctifier
Jehovah Tsidkenu...I AM your Righteousness
Jehovah Shammah...I AM Present
El Shaddai...The God who is More than enough.
Jesus, did the same thing. He identified himself...
“I AM the Bread of life”
“I AM the Light of the world”
“I AM the Door”
“I AM the True Vine”
“I AM the Good Shepherd”
“I AM the Resurrection and the Life”
“I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life”
“I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End”
“I AM He that liveth and was dead and behold I AM Alive Forevermore”
And...the name “Jesus” itself...
Jesus...I AM your Salvation
Identity is huge to God!
What He calls himself is important.
What He calls you is important.
What You call yourself is important.
When God got wanted to change Abram's life...He gave him a new name!
He wants people to call themselves by their new name!

He changed Sarai (Princess) to Sarah (Mother of Nations)

He hanged Jacob (Deceiver) to Israel (Prince with God)

When God appeared to Gideon and called him to deliver Israel from the Midianites, he didn't call him Gideon (Hewer of wood) but called him... “Thou Mighty Man of Valor”!
God has given you a New Name! A New Spiritual Identity!
(Because we know who God is...we know he can make us what he calls us!)
Not Sinner but Saint
Not Child of the devil but Son of God
Not defeated but a Conqueror
Not rejected but Accepted
Not hated but Loved
Not lost but Found
Not unclean but Holy
Not condemned but Justified
Not perishing or dying...but Saved!
