Faith vs. Fear
Mark 4:36-40
Notice these Men were fearful!
Some of us don’t want to admit that at times, we are afraid.
Men don’t want to admit it much, but they get afraid too.
My fear of failure in the 80’s
Jesus said that his disciples were full of fear and had no faith!
Faith vs. Fear! Faith and Fear are enemies…but they are not opposites. They’re actually the same thing.
Faith is believing that what you cannot see is coming to pass.
Fear is believing that what you cannot see is coming to pass.
Fear is simply Faith in the negative.
Fear is Faith going the wrong way.
Fear is Faith in the wrong thing.
Instead of faith in God…it’s faith in something else!
To be empty of faith leaves one open to being full of fear!
We are commanded to be full of faith…
Mark 11:22
Have (hold, contain) faith in God!
You are created to be a faith container!
We are called to walk by faith and not by sight.
Many people just try to ignore their fears!
(Men often think that they will just work hard, protect the family, fix the house when it needs it…and that’s about it. They’re saved, go to church. But they don’t aggressively seek God, read their Bible, or specifically “do business with God”. Many times they leave the praying and believing to their wives…
Some try to cover up their fear with activity!
(Work, hobbies, recreation, shopping, eating, drugs, alcohol)
But…A life of fear and an early grave is the result!
(Luke 21:26 “men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.”)
Why are we told to walk by Faith and not by Sight!
Because what you see can scare you to death!
Let’s compare Faith and Fear!
Faith acts from a position of authority.
Fear acts from a feeling of abandonment.
(The disciples said it out loud. “Master, carest thou not that we perish?”
Faith believes that God empowers you.
Fear believes that God deserts you and embarrasses you.
Faith is acting on the Word of God.
Fear is acting on a Word not from God.
(Someone else’s word, that disagrees with God.)
Faith expects and hopes.
Fear doubts and worries.
Faith expects good things.
Fear expects evil things.
Faith and Fear have opposite results!
He that believes is blessed.
Galatians 3:9
He that doubts is cursed.
Romans 14:23
Faith attracts blessings.
Fear attracts curses.
Are you walking in Faith or in Fear?
When we talk about the economy.
When you consider the future.
When you think about your role as father and husband
When you look at your health
When you lie awake at night. (Are you fearing evil or envisioning good things?)
Romans 10:17
Let’s get full of the Word and full of Faith…
Rather than full of fears, superstitions, doubts and worries!
