Covenant People V

Passage: Revelation 12:7-11

Covenant People 5

Revelation 12:7-11
The Brethren…The Family of God…God’s Covenant People have been given the power to overcome the Devil! (“overcome” = to subdue, conquer, prevail over, get the victory)

1 John 3:8 “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil”.

We are God’s Covenant People!
We’ve been given power over the devil.
Luke 10:19 “Behold I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall be any means hurt you.”

So how do we overcome?
This scripture gives us the three elements necessary for overcoming in life!

Covenant
We overcome by the blood of the Lamb!
The blood of Jesus established our covenant with God.
The first step to overcoming is to know who God is and what he has done for us by the blood of Jesus.
God told Moses that he is the “I am that I am”
(literally, ‘I am who I am”)
“Jehovah”, God’s name means, “I am”
Throughout history God has revealed himself and his covenant promises by his name…his Jehovah titles!

To Abraham…
Jehovah Jireh, The Lord our Provider
Genesis 22:14

To Moses…
Jehovah Rapha, The Lord our Healer
Exodus 15;26

To Moses…
Jehovah Nissi, The Lord our Victory
Exodus 17:15

To Gideon…
Jehovah Shalom, The Lord our Peace
Judges 6:24

To David…
Jehovah Rohi, The Lord our Shepherd (Guide)
Psalm 23:1

To Jeremiah…
Jehovah Tsidkenu, The Lord our Righteousness
Jeremiah 23:6

To Ezekiel…
Jehovah Shammah, The Lord is Present (Friend)
Ezekiel 48:35

Confession
We overcome by the word of our testimony!
The words that come out of our mouth reveal what we believe, who we believe God is to us...and what we have become now that we’re in covenant with God!

Commitment
We overcome by loving not our lives!
Jesus said “He that love his life shall lose it but he that hates his life in this world shall save it unto life eternal”
We are to love His life…Not our life!
We are to live His life…Not our self willed life!
Our lives are his!
We’re committed to him as Covenant partners!
And He is committed to us and gives us the Victory!
