Life doesn't have many guarantees. It's full of opportunities though. One of the secrets to success is to seize those opportunities whenever possible. I believe that God provides us with all the opportunities we need to live the life that He has planned for us. I think opportunities are gifts from God.
While it's certainly true that some people don't have the same opportunities as others...it's not true that they have no opportunities at all. Failure doesn't come just because we don't have as many opportunities as someone else. Failure comes because we don't seize the ones we have!
Do you recognize opportunities when they come around? You can't if you're not looking for them.
Some of us look for gifts, advantages, good deals, freebies...even blessings. Then because opportunities don't usually come wrapped up all pretty with a bow on top, we miss some of the greatest things God could ever do for us. We have to be careful not to miss the fishing pole while we're looking for a fish. Thomas Edison said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
I heard about a guy years ago who had been given an opportunity to invest money in a new ski resort with some friends of his. He didn't think the idea was a very good one. He passed it up. That idea is now Vail, Colorado.
Opportunities truly are golden!
It seems like so many people today have totally re-defined the “American Dream”. They think of the American dream as being a house, a car, a steady job and some kids. Actually, the American Dream is the opportunity to have those things and even more. And how have we been afforded these opportunities? Because a thing called “Freedom” is offered in America. America is a great place of opportunity...not guarantees. In America, you can dream, plan, create, design, build and develop. In America you can pursue life, liberty and happiness. Government doesn't owe us an income, housing, education, retirement or medical care. As long as Americans think that way, we'll continue to see our economy and our culture in decline and we'll continue to miss genuine opportunities for achievement and success. What's great about America is that it's “the land of opportunity”!
What is Church? It's an opportunity to be all you can be in God.
What is Faith? It's the opportunity to please God and to receive from God.
What is Destiny? It's the opportunity to live a life of significance and accomplishment in God.
What is the Future? It's the opportunity to live your life differently than you ever have in the past.
Let's learn to see opportunities...to receive them as gifts from God...to seize them...and to utilize them for his Glory!
We all have them. Let's not waste them.
